Musaeus wins Regatta, takes Higgings Trophy

Musaeus College oarswomen sailed through the water perfectly and
gracefully to beat their arch rivals in rowing Ladies College by 26
points to 14 to win the Second Annual Regatta held on the Beira Waters
at Colombo Rowing Club.
They were presented the Marie Musaeus Higgings Challenge Trophy.
This years Regatta was organised and hosted by Musaeus College. The
winners Musaeus won the 'A' Scull (6 points), 'A' Pair (8 points) and
the 'Boat Race' (12 points), while Ladies College had wins in the 'B'
Scull (2 points), 'B' Pair (4), 'B' Four (8) and the 'C' Four (no points
awarded for this event). Musaeus led 14 points to 6 on completion of the
fourth race but Ladies College crew put up a spirited display to equal
14-all winning the 'B' Four. The decider was the main event of the day
the 'Boat Race' ('A' Four).
The Musaeus crew comprising Uvini Atapattu (Bow), Hiroshi
Goonawardene (2), Sachitra Jayatillaka (3), Naduni Perera (Stroke) and
Menaka Kohona (Cox) rowed with excellent technique to win the blue
riband event of the Regatta the 'Boat Race' returning a time of 4.25
secs. to Ladies crew's 4.30 secs. The Ladies crew was represented by
Shadeena Mendis (B), Sashini Amarasuriya (2), Savani Dissanayake (3),
Gayani Botejue (S), Minuri Amarasuriya (C).
Uvini Atapattu the Musaeus College captain performed the best and was
undoubtedly the 'Oars Women of the Regatta.' Atapattu rowed elegantly to
win the 'A' Scull, 'A' Pair partnering Hiroshi Goonewardene and the
'Boat Race' along with other four rowers. Mrs. Nirmali Wickremasinghe,
Principal, Ladies College was the chief guest. |
