Soldier killed in grenade attack
 

Suspected LTTE cadres lobbed a hand grenade into the Lake road camp of the Sri Lanka Army killing one soldier attached to the 14th Sri Lanka National Guard and injuring another, military sources said yesterday.

The suspected LTTE cadres had lobbed this grenade yesterday morning around 6.30 am killing Staff Sergeant Nawaratnaraja (38) alias Gandhi on the spot and injuring Corporal M. Yogaraja both attached to the Sri Lanka National Guard, military sources added.

Meanwhile, in another incident suspected LTTE pistol group members shot dead a priest of the Anajneyar Hindu Kovil at Marandanamadam in Chunnakam, Jaffna around 1.20 pm yesterday.

Sabananda Sharma (28), the son of the Chief Priest of the Hindu Kovil was shot dead in his car when he was getting into it after the conducting pooja at the Kovil, military sources added.

According to sources the priest has had close connections with the Security Forces in the area when conducting feasts at the Kovil.
