All must unite after presidential polls -Ranil

All must unite after the Presidential elections disregarding differences to bring peace to the country, said Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.

"It is very difficult to develop the nation under a divided state," he told an UNP propaganda rally at the Eheliyagoda public grounds recently. Wickremesinghe said as the People's Alliance was unable to obtain a clear majority, at the previous general election the Sandhana Government was unable to appoint its own Speaker.

"The Janabala Meheyuma, signing of the Janabala petition and other protests were held to obtain a chance for the people to use their franchise for any candidate they prefer," he said.

The major problems the nation faces today are the cost of living, unemployment and the downfall of the economy. Under a UNP regime, it is hoped to develop the country's natural resources, including the gem industry, Wickremesinghe said.

Job opportunities must be created in a speedy manner to solve unemployment, he said.
