UNP supports Govt for talks with LTTE

THE UNP will support the Government in the event it decides to begin talks with the LTTE, UNP Deputy Secretary General Tissa Attanayake said.

He told a press conference in Colombo on Friday the UNP blueprint in the process of being drawn would spell out the strategy to take the country forward and develop it within the two decades. Attanayake said that had public backing as it included their views.

The distribution of the UNP Manifesto will reach the whole country with the support of the 22,000 party branches.

Referring to the forthcoming Presidential Election, Attanayake said the UNP will shortly begin the distribution of their policy statement, the Election Manifesto among the public. The manifesto has public views and that spelled out the strategy to solve ethnic and socio-economical issues.

The blue print of a future UNP administration will also include solutions to end unemployment, poverty alleviation, housing, treating tsunami victims, status of women and education, he said.

Attanayake said the UNP hierarchy has appointed two special Committees to carry out the Presidential Election campaign. Publicity campaign's main group will operate under Wickremesinghe's guidance and directives.

The second committee responsible for the publicity campaign will operate on UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya and Chairman Malik Samarawickreme's directives.
