Defeat UNP plots, revive renaissance of '56 - Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakon

Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakon in a message, greeted the SLFP Annual Convention to be held at the Colombo Race Course on September 06,under the auspices of President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

The up-country people and myself are delighted to convey our warm greetings on this historic occasion attended by SLFP Presidential Candidate Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse and Foreign Minister Anura Bandaranaike who is the party's choice for the Premiership, the message said.

The SLFP Annual Convention takes place at a decisive point of our country's history.

I believe that the entire citizenry will welcome this event with the hope of protecting and fostering the peace process.

"The revolution that swept across our country in 1956, was a massive force comprising the clergy, physicians, teachers, farmers and workers-Pancha Maha Balavegaya-who were determined to lay the foundation for the renaissance of our polity, our culture and our economy".

I request all the people to rally round and cooperate with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga who dedicated herself and provided leadership to the party during the past 11 years. We will defeat the UNP conspiracies and take forward the cause of her father, the late Prime Minister S.W.R.D.Bandaranaike, started in the year 1956, the message said.
