Reconstruction of 28 bridges completed

Out of the 62 bridges identified under the Reconstruction Project of the north and East, work on 28 bridges has been completed by now, states M.S. Jayasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction.

The estimated cost of reconstruction of these bridges is Rs. 4 billion under the budget for 2006. The reconstructed 28 bridges comprise 18 in the Northern Province, one in Anuradhapura and nine bridges devastated by the tsunami, last year.

Presently, the reconstruction work of 17 bridges, four in Jaffna, two in Kilinochchi, three in Ampara, two in Anuradhapura, one in Vavuniya, four in Mannar and one in Trincomalee are in progress, according to Secretary Jayasinghe.
