Lanka and India share many things in common -Envoy

"Sri Lanka and India share many things in common this could help form
new foundation for better understanding" said Indian High Commissioner
in Sri Lanka Srimathi Nirupama Rao.
She was speaking at the awarding ceremony of Shankar International
Children's Competition 2004 (SICC).
Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Minister Mahinda Yapa
Abeywardhane was the chief guest. Rao said that over 30 countries have
joined the SICC. She said that Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar had spoken
to her some times ago about this ceremony and he was very anxious to
participate in this ceremony.
Minister Abeywardhane speaking on the occasion said that he was glad
to be present at a function which had a guiding hand from India.
"India is our neighbour and trusted friend. India came first to
assist when the country was hit by the tsunami despite the devastation
caused to their own country", he said.
The competition is held annually to bring out and promote children's
latent talents. The organisers had the support of tourism ministries of
both India and Sri Lanka.
He added that late Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar was also
scheduled to participate in this ceremony. But the fate had decided
otherwise.
Chathurangika Sandamini Ariyawansa and Madhawee Levke Bandara of Devi
Balika Vidyalaya won the Jawaharlal Nehru Gold Medal.
