LTTE mulling proposal for CFA talks in Sri Lanka
BY ANANTH Palakidnar
THE Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are considering the
Government's call for having the CFA talks in Sri Lanka positively,
Northern sources said.
The LTTE hierarchy is willing to have the talks on the CFA with the
Government in one of the areas which come under their control, sources
said.
Earlier, LTTE theoretician Dr.Anton Balasingham suggested to
Norwegian facilitators that the organisation preferred to have Oslo as
the venue for the resumption of talks.
However the LTTE hierarchy in Killinochchi is now exploring the
possibility of choosing a venue in an area under their control.
The sources said that the LTTE's venue would be considered with the
Peace Secretariat in Colombo and the SLMM. The LTTE is not in favour of
having the talks in a no-man's land, the sources said.
In the aftermath of Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar's
assassination, both parties have now agreed to start talks on the CFA. |
