Colombo Bourse reacts positively to verdict

SHARE prices jumped 1.5 percent Friday following a Supreme Court ruling that clears the way for Presidential Elections before November 21, brokers said.

The All Share Price index closed at 2,179.11, or 1.5 per cent higher while the Milanka index which tracks the highly liquid blue chips rose 2.43 percent to close at 2,859.53, the Colombo Stock Exchange figures showed.

"Investors are taking the Supreme Court decision very positively and that is the main reason for both indices to jump today," Lanka Business Online quoted Asia Securities stockbroker, Mahesh Pieris, as saying. - AFP
