Sri Lankan paddlers for Taiyuan Junior table tennis c'ships

The Taiyuan International Open Junior Table Tennis Championship and International Table Tennis Federation World Junior Circuit Championship will be held in Taiyuan, China from 25th to 30th August, 2005.

The championships which will be held annually and conducted by the Chinese Table Tennis Association in collaboration with the Asian TT Union and International Table Tennis Federation. This is the 3rd occasion Sri Lankan players are taking part in this championship.

Previous results: Won bronze medal for the under-12 boys doubles by Vindula Ganegoda of Royal College, Colombo and Ishan Kalyana of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda in 2002.

Silver medals were won in the under-12 championship by Chameera Ginige and Hasintha Sashiranga of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda and Samitha Abeyratne of Royal College, Colombo.

The following players will take part: Chameera Ginige (Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda). Captain of the junior boys team. Under 9 rank No. 1 in 2002. Under 9, 11 and 13 all island and Southern Province champion. Won silver medal for the under 12 team championship in 2004 in China. Hasintha Sashiranga (Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda). Under 9, under 11 all island champion. Junior national under 12 boys singles champion in 2004. Won silver medal for the under 12 team championship in 2004 in China.

Imantha Udanjaya (Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda). Under 11 boys singles champion in 2005. Received colours from the Sri Lanka Schools TT Association. Under 9 boys singles champion at Southern Province. No. 1 player in the under 11 boys singles in 2005.

Dushan Ranatunge (Isipathana Vidyalaya, Colombo). Under 9 boys singles champion and runner-up of the Western Province TT championship. Under 11 boys singles runner-up player of the Duntari Memorial Open Table Tennis championship in Maldives.

Malith Dinusha (Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda). Under 13 runner-up player of the all island open TT championships in 2005. Participated the same tournament in 2004. Rank No. 2 player in the under 13 boys singles in 2005. Under 9 Junior National Champion in 2002.

Pasan Bimsara (Royal College, Colombo). Under 11 boys singles rank No. 2 in 2005. Won under 11 boys singles championships of all island championships. Under 10 and 12 team championships runner-up team member.

Oshadi Kottahachchy (Royal College, Colombo). Received colours for schools TT Associations. Became runner-up of the under 12 B division.

Prabodana Rodrigo (St. Anthony's College, Kandy). Under 7, 9, 11 champion of the Central Province TT championships. Under 9 boys singles all island champion in 2004. Under 9 boys singles rank No. 1 in 2004.

Rajitha Samaraweera (Dharmaraja College, Kandy). Rank No. 5 in the under 15 boys singles event in 2005.

Hasitha Samaraweera (Dharmaraja College, Kandy). Senior team captain. Participated as a captain of the team in 2004 in Taiyuan Junior Championship in China.

Hasara Jayasinghe (Trinity College, Kandy). Under 19 runner-up team member of the all island table tennis championship in 2005. Became the semi finalist of the under 18 team championship in 2003. A. C. Thilakaratne (Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College, Kandy). Under 17 runner-up player of the triangular table tennis championship and men's doubles and mixed doubles runner-up player. Became the runner-up team of the 31st national sports festival.

J. S. Cooray (St. Anthony's College, Kandy). Under 15 boys singles runner-up of the Junior National Table Tennis Championship in 2004. Under 17 and 19 boys singles championship of the triangular table tennis championship. Under-13 boys singles runner-up player of the Central Province Table Tennis Championship.

Thushani Muthumali (Southland's College, Galle). Captain of the junior girls team. Under 7, 9 and 11 girls single champion of the Southern Province. Champion and runner-up player of the under 9 girls singles of the all island table tennis championship in 2002.

The member of the champion team of under 10 A division at the all island inter-schools table tennis championships. Under 11 girls singles champion of all island table tennis championship in 2004. Rank No. 1 player in under-11 age group in 2004.

Chavindaya de Silva (Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda). Under 9 girls singles champion of the all island table tennis championship in 2002. Became the champion team member of the under 10 A division in 2004, under 11 girls singles runner-up player of the Junior Nationals in 2004. Participated as a player of the Taiyuan TT championship in 2004.

Nuwani Navodya (Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda). Under 9 champion of the all island table tennis championship in 2004. Under 11 runner-up player of the all island TT championship in 2005. Under 9, 11 and 13 champion and runner-up player of the Southern Province TT championship. Kavindi Halkewela (Southland's College, Galle). Under 11 runner-up player of the all island table tennis championship in 2005. Under 9 champion of the all island table tennis championship in 2004. Under 9 Junior National Champion of the 57th Junior National Championship.

Kasuni Pitigala (Southland's College, Galle). Under 13 and 11 runner-up player of the all island table tennis championship. Under 12 A division champion team member of the all island inter schools TT championships in 2005.

Mihiri Anuradha (St. Mary's Convent, Matara). Under 9 girls singles rank No. 3 in 2003. Received Schools TT Association colours. Under 9 and 11 novices runner-up player of the all island novices TT championship in 2002. Under 10 A division runner-up team member of the all island schools TT championship in 2003.

Rasheena Maduwanthi (P. de S. Kularatne Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda). Under 12 D division champion team member of the all island inter-schools TT championship. Under 9 girls singles runner-up player in 2004.

Zamila Jiffria Adnan (Girls High School, Mount Lavinia). Under 11 girls singles champion of the Western Province TT championship in 2005. Under 9 girls singles champion of the Western Province TT championship in 2004.

Ishara Madurangi (Sri Devananda College, Ambalangoda). National Women's singles champion. Under 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 champion of the all island table tennis championship. The permanent member of the senior and junior national pool. Participated Sri Lanka at the junior and senior tournaments and having more experience. Won silver medals at the South Asian Junior table tennis championship in 2004 in India.

1st Sri Lankan player had become the silver medal at any Asian Table Tennis Championship. Tharindra Weerakoon (Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala, Under 9, 11, 13 all island champion. Under 13 rank No. 1 in 2004 of under 13 girls singles championship.

Chamathi Sudara (Sangamitta College, Galle). Under 12, 14 and 16 D Division champion team member of the all island inter schools TT championships in 2003. Under 19 D division champion team member in 2004. Novices women's singles champion in 2005.

Chanika Wijekoon (Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala). Under 18 A division champion team member of the inter-schools table tennis championship. Sag games pool player in 2006. Women's doubles runner up player of all island table tennis championship in 2004. National Sports Festival runner up team member. Open women's rank No. 11.

Madushani Sakna (Sangamitta College, Galle). Under 11 girls singles runner-up player of the Southern Province in 2000. Under 17 girls singles runner-up player of the Southern Province in 2004. All island novices women's singles runner-up and intermediate women's singles champion in 2005. Officials

Chandana Perera (Chef de Mission). An old boy of St. John's College, Nugegoda). Sports Instructor of the Colombo Municipal Council. Former President of the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka in 1995/1996 and 1996/1997. Presently General Secretary of the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka.

Namal Gunasekera (Manager cum Coach). An old girl of the Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda. She is working at Lake House. Former National Player. Won the bronze medal at the SAF Games in 1991. Won bronze and silver medals at the SAF Games in 1993.

Duminda Shantha (Assistant Coach). An old boy of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda. Presently a table tennis coach at Richmond College and Sangamitta College, Galle.

Nandana Jayasuriya (Assistant Coach). An old boy of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala. Presently a table tennis coach at Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala and Maliyadeva BMV, Kurunegala.

D. G. K. Weerakoon (Lady chaperon). In charge of schools players. Last year too she represented the same tournaments as a lady chaperon.
