Bail for two foreign women
 

The officials of the Fort Police Vice Squad Division yesterday produced two foreign women before the Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunaratne under the Vagrancy Ordinance.

Shanthi Crosette-Thambiah, Senior Counsel for the two women, moving for bail submitted to court that the two foreign women have come to Sri Lanka on three months tourist visa and was staying in a five star hotel. They had not committed any offence or violated any laws of the country, the Senior Counsel said.

After the submissions by the Senior Defence Counsel the Judge granted bail for the two women and directed them to furnish cash bail in a sum of Rs.5,000 each.

On an application by the Senior Defence Counsel the Judge directed them to appear in court on August 26.

Sub Inspector Prematilleke Weerasinghe, OIC, Fort Vice Squad Division, with Sergeant Jayatilleke, Constables Rajapaksa and Iddamalgoda produced the two foreign women in court. Investigations are directed by Colombo DIG Pujit Jayasundera assisted by Colombo ASP Champika Siriwardena.
