FAO pledges assistance for agriculture development activities
 

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) representative for Sri Lanka and the Maldives Dr. Pote Chumfri who recently called on Agriculture, Public Security, Law and Order Minister and Deputy Defence Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake has pledged the FAO's fullest assistance to develop the agriculture activities in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Chumfri told the Minister that the FAO was very keen on the agriculture activities in Sri Lanka and is also willing to know about the Minister's vision over the development of agriculture sector.

The Minister said that no change has been made in the agriculture policy of the Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga Government.

However, efficiency is one of the most essential features when attempts are being made to serve the farmer community, the Minister stressed.

Minister Wickremanayake said his intention was to assist farmers to obtain a better harvest at a low cost utilising modern technology.
