ITI provides training to scientists from Pakistan

The Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) recently completed two training programmes for scientists from the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) in Karachi, the Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR) in Karachi and Lahore and the Marine Fisheries Laboratory in Karachi.

The training was provided on Laboratory Quality Management with special reference to Microbiological analysis of water and fish..The Microbiology laboratory of the ITI has been accredited by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC) as per ISO/IEC 17025 since September 2002 with respect to parameters in water and fish.

The accreditation was possible via the UNIDO Integrated Industrial Support programme for Sri Lanka on the component 'Quality, Standardisation and Metrology' that provided international expert inputs, overseas training and study tours and the supply of equipment and chemicals.

The international accreditation obtained by the ITI laboratory is important as per the current EU Regulations on export of fish to the European Union countries that requires laboratories providing analytical reports to be accredited to the ISO 17025 standard.

With this expertise in place the ITI was called upon by UNIDO to share their experience and knowledge with counterparts from Pakistan within the purview of the project on Trade Related Technical Assistance to Pakistan.
