SLT to introduce CDMA technology soon - chairman
 

Sri Lanka telecom is optimistic that it would be granted the licence to operate CDMA technology this week. Chairman SLT, said the Telecom regulatory commission would indicate to the SLT tomorrow on the outcome of their application for a licence. "We had applied for this licence almost two years ago but for unknown reasons we were not granted the licence," he said.

Sri Lanka telecom (SLT) is optimistic that it would be granted the licence to operate CDMA technology this week.

Chairman SLT, Anil Obeyesekere said the Telecom regulatory commission (TRC) would indicate to the SLT tomorrow on the outcome of their application for a licence. "We had applied for this licence almost two years ago but for unknown reasons we were not granted the licence," he said.

Chairman, however said that soon as the licence is granted they would provide around 150,000 connections per year. "Though SLT would be the third player in providing CDMA and a late starter we are targeting to provide nearly 500,000 connections within three years and be the market leader, since SLT infrastructure is for superior to our competitors," he said.

"We would select our CDMA service provider within two weeks and the service would be launched soon," he said.

Chairman also said that they would lay the fourth South East Asia, Middle East Western Europe (SEAMEWE) under ground cable in a few months.

"This would give an even better connectivity to the rest of the world," he said. With greater emphasis placed on SLTs integrated business communications technology, corporates and companies can successfully minimize inventory through reliability, speed and flexibility, with the introduction of intelligent business solutions.
