President seeks SC ruling on poll date

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday sought a Supreme Court interpretation on the date of the next Presidential Election. President Kumaratunga made this request in the context of the present controversy surrounding the issue, with both 2005 and 2006 being cited as possible dates.

HDFC Bank has recorded a pre-tax profit of Rs. 235 million during the financial year ended on December 31, 2004, the Chairman S.M.M Yaseen, said presenting the Bank's Annual Report covering its first complete annual performance since becoming a licensed specialised bank.

One must sympathise with the present West Indies side. They presented a pathetic picture of a ship, which had lost its moorings.
