Police remove EPDP cadre's coffin

The Army bomb disposal squad came to the assistance of Jaffna police to remove the coffin of a slain EPDP cadre which was kept outside the SLMM office in Jaffna on Friday night, Northern sources said.

The reports from Jaffna said that the coffin which contained the body of EPDP member S. Nixon who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen was kept outside the SLMM office at temple road, Jaffna where several EPDP cadres staged a protest against the killing. Later, the protestors left the SLMM office leaving behind the coffin.

Following the complaint made by the SLMM, Jaffna police arrived at the scene and sought the help of the Army to remove the coffin. The Army bomb disposal squad which arrived at the scene checked the coffin and allowed the police to remove it.

Later, the Jaffna Magistrate ordered the police to hand over the body of EPDP cadre Nixon to his family members and to ensure that it was buried within three hours reports said.
