Centenarian's fatal tryst with MP's vehicle

A 103-year-old woman was killed on the spot after being knocked down by a van identified as an official vehicle of UNP Puttalam District MP Palitha Range Bandara.

The incident took place at Mahawewa in Thoduwawa at around 3 pm yesterday.

According to eyewitnesses, MP Range Bandara had been in the vehicle at the time. The vehicle with the garage No. WPC0163 had rammed into a lamp post after knocking down the woman who was crossing the road.

The victim was identified as M.A. Emalina Fernando whose ID card found at the scene gave her date of birth as 09.09.1902.

Chilaw Police are investigating.
