University of Colombo favoured to retain rowing title

The 22nd annual inter-university regatta between the defending champions University of Colombo and University of Moratuwa will take place on Friday, July 29 on the Beira Waters-Colombo Rowing Club starting at 1.30 p.m. The University of Colombo will host this years regatta.

The regatta between the undergrads should turn out to be a close tussle as rowers from both universities have performed exceptionally well in warm-up regattas they have participated. But according to last year's performances University of Colombo is fancied to retain the title.

Last year University of Colombo's men's crew had five wins including the Boat Race to Collect 36 points to University of Moratuwa 6 points. They were awarded the Prof. Stanley Wijesundera Challenge trophy. The University of Colombo ladies also performed well winning three events of the four including the main fours event. The points tally: University of Colombo 20, University of Moratuwa 2 points. The UoC were presented the Lloyd Sirimanne challenge Trophy.

The events to be worked off are men's 'A' Scull, 'B' Scull, 'A' Pair, 'B' Pair, 'A' Fours, 'B' Fours. Women's scull, 'A' Pair and fours.
