Alleged possession of explosives: Suspects remanded till July 29

Seven suspects allegedly possessing of consignment of explosives arrested by the Mannar Police last Sunday were remanded till July 29 by Mannar Acing Magistrate M.B. Farook. They were immediately taken to Anuradhapura Remand Prison under tight security, legal sources said.

The suspects including a mother, Gurusamy Kamalawathie (48) and her son, Gurusamy Sritharan (24), who were arrested in a house at Thalvupadu following the arrest of five other persons at Konthaipiddy landing site were produced before Mannar Court Sunday evening around 6.30 p.m with heavy security, legal sources said.

Explosives recovered at the landing site while they were being loaded into a three-wheeler and those found at the Thalvupadu house include 16 claymore mines, remote control circuits, and wires.

The three-wheeler and two fibreglass boats with outboard motors are now under the Mannar Police custody legal sources said.
