Elected L.S.S.P. General Secretary

The Central Committee of the L.S.S.P. which met recently elected Wimalasiri De Mel as its General Secretary.

Wimalasiri who held the post of Deputy Secretary of the Party for quite sometime is the Ex-M.P. for Moratuwa. He was also a member of the first Western Province Provincial Council.

Wimalasiri has been associated with the L.S.S.P. from his student-days in the 1940s and since becoming a fully-fledged member of the L.S.S.P. in 1952, was working in the Trade-Union sector of the Party for a long time.

He is also a social worker in Moratuwa. Wimalasiri succeeds Batty Weerakoon, former Minister of the P.A. Government, who resigned from the post of General Secretary of the L.S.S.P, sometime back.
