First ever Building Materials supermarket opens on July 27
The "Building Materials Super Centre" established by the Building
Materials Corporation Ltd. (BMC) at its Head quarters at Sangaraja
Mawatha, Colombo will be declared open by Prime Minister Mahinda
Rajapakse on the invitation of Minister of Housing & Construction
Industry, Eastern Province Education & Irrigation Development, Mrs.
Ferial Ashraff at 9 a.m. on July 27.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Housing and
Construction Industry, Eastern Province Education and Irrigation
Development, the idea behind this Super Sales Centre is to facilitate
the housebuilders and other constructors to purchase building materials
and other accessories of higher quality from one location at competitive
prices.
In addition to the BMC, other importers of building materials both in
the public and private sectors are given the opportunity to market their
products at their permanent sales outlets assigned to them in the sales
centre. Adequate parking space for vehicles entering the premises is
made available while transport services to carry the goods to required
destinations are provided.
The BMC states that this is the first time a fully facilitated sales
centre for building materials, where public and private sector is
jointly represented, is established.
Simultaneously with the opening of the Super Sales Centre for
building materials by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse an exhibition
displaying latest developments in the construction industry, building
materials and the progress in house construction in Sri Lanka will be
opened. The exhibition will be open to the general public from July 27
to 31.
Deputy Minister of Housing and Construction Industry, Eastern
Province Education and irrigation Development and Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources, Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Minister of Finance Sarath Amunugama,
Minister of Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Jeyaraj Fernandopulle
and the Minister of Urban Development and Water Supply, Dinesh
Gunawardena will participate. |
