New courts complex for Nawalapitiya
by L.B. Wijayasiri in Kandy
On the request of Power and Energy Deputy Minister Mahindananda
Aluthgamage, Ministry of Justice and Legal Reforms has agreed to
establish a new Courts Complex at Nawalapitiya to house the District
Court, Magistrate's Court and the Labour Tribunal.
This was revealed at a meeting held at the Nawalapitiya Magistrate's
Court at which Deputy Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Secretary to
the Ministry of Justice Suhada Gamlath and several others participated.
It has been proposed to put up a three-storied building to house
those two court houses and to shift the Nawalapitiya Labour Tribunal now
housed at Rambukpitiya out of Nawalapitiya town and also the Rent Board
office to it.
At present Nawalapitiya Magistrate's Court is being conducted in a
75-year-old dilapidated building at Ambagamuwa Road. The land on which
the Ayurvedic Centre is situated at Baily Road has been selected to put
up the new Court Complex, which will be completed with garages and an
approach road will be constructed near the CTB depot.
Ministry Secretary, Engineers and Magistrate's Court Registrar
D.M.K.B. Bandaranayake were present at the meeting. |
