I'll take every step to foster Buddhism - New Diyawadana Nilame

"I will take all steps to protect Buddhism and give its rightful place and also discharge my duties in a fair and just manner said Pradeep Nilanga Dala Bandara - the 19th Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy.

He said this when he assumed duties as the 19th Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy when he made his address after the religious ceremonies.

Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dala Bandara said that the assets and properties will be safeguarded in the best possible manner and at the same time steps will be taken to develop them.

He also thanked the clergy, the media, the state officials, and the staff of the Sri Dalada Maligawa for all the assistance provided and he looked forward to their co-operation.

Also present at the religious ceremonies were Most Ven. Udugama Sri Rathanapale Buddharakkitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter and the Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte Maha Vihare Chapter and a number of other members of the Buddhist clergy.

Ven Warakawe Dhammaloka Thera - Registrar of the Asgiriya Raja Maha Vihare said that the present Diyawadana Nilame will be new to the place but he has an experienced staff to assist him and he should make use of their services and experience. At the same time the clergy with their experience will be there to guide him in all matters and he should seek their advice whenever needed.

Acting Diyawadana Nilame, Rohan Paranagame, H.D. Sunil, Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs, D.W. Abeywickrema, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddha Sasana, were also present.
