Dalada Thewawa handed over to Malwatte Chapter

Performing of the 'Thewawa' the age-old rituals in reverence to the Sacred Tooth Relic was shifted from Asgiriya Mahavihara Chapter to Malwatta Mahavihara Chapter on Friday evening in keeping with traditions.

The "Thewawa" was performed by Asgiriya Maha Vihara from Esala Full Moon Poya Day, 2004 and Malwatta Mahavihara Chapter will be in charge of those poojas during the next one year commenced from Esala Poya this year.

Most. Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatta Chapter took over the "Thewawa" from Most Ven. Udugama Sri Ratanapala Buddharakkhitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter.

The new Diyawadana Nilame of Dalada Maligawa Nilanga Dela Bandara was present too to witness the occasion. It was the first time the "Dalada Thewawa" was changed hands from one Mahavihara Chapter to another after he assumed office. This change takes place every year.

Inventories of valuables at "Ihala Male" (Upper floor) where the Inner Shrine is situated and at "Palle Male" (Lower floor) of Dalada Maligawa were handed over to Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatta Chapter by Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter.

Most. Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera has appointed his representative members of Karaka Maha Sangha Sabha to be in charge of the 'Thewawa' at the Inner Shrine and at the Viharaya at the lower floor.
