Search on for diplomat's vehicle

Special police teams from the Kegalle and Avissawella police divisions have been deployed to trace the car of the Assistant Indian High Commissioner Rajan Pillai, which was robbed at gunpoint when he parked it at the Ambepussa Rest House on Saturday morning.

OIC Crimes of the Warakapola police station A. Jayawardene told the Daily News that used car sales centres were under search. Police have been deployed to scrutinise Ambepussa and its suburbs. "The persons who have taken away the vehicle at gun point were found to be speaking in Sinhala. Several witnesses have seen the vehicle, a Toyota Landcruiser being driven towards Mirigama," OIC Jayawardene said.

An Indian High Commission spokesman said they were happy with the police investigation. The High Commission was constantly in touch with the police.

He also said that the Foreign Ministry was also coordinating with the police and the High Commission.
