AMPARA - Suspected LTTE men throw grenade at policemen
TWO Special Task Force (STF) constables and one policeman providing
security to a refugee camp at the Ramakrishna Maha Vidyalaya in the
general area of Akkaraipattu were injured yesterday afternoon around
12.40 p.m when an unidentified gang, suspected to be from LTTE, lobbed a
hand grenade at them.
The injured constables, PC 33322 Ananda (30), PC 12447 Pathiraja (27)
and RPC 31287 Ranjith (34) were providing security to the refugee camp
at the time when assailants committed this crime. The three victims have
been admitted to hospital.
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) was to be informed.
BATTICALOA - Grama Niladhari shot dead
The Grama Niladhari of Kalmunai - 3 has been shot dead by two
unidentified gunmen, suspected to be from the LTTE, inside his house in
the general area of Kalmunai on Wednesday night around 8.30 p.m.
The motorcycle-riding assassins stormed his house and went on firing
at the victim, Marimuttu Paskaran (51) while his wife pleaded for her
husband's life.
Armed LTTE cadres sighted by troops
Troops on routine patrol on the Polonnaruwa- Batticaloa road have
observed three armed LTTE cadres in LTTE uniforms in the general area of
Thirayamadu on Wednesday around 11.45 a.m.
Those LTTE cadres were moving at a location approximately 500 m away
from troops. As troops were approaching towards them, they began to
disperse. Troops had conducted a search in the area.
WANNI - LTTE fire directed at Army camp
Suspected LTTE men in uncleared areas have fired two rounds using
small arms towards Security Forces Forward Defence Line (FDL) in the
general area of Navatkulam on Wednesday. The Sri Lanka Monitoring
Mission (SLMM) was to be informed.
JAFFNA PENINSULA - LTTE conducts lectures at schools
Four LTTE cadres had forcibly entered the Atchuvely Maha Vidyalaya in
the general area of Jaffna on Wednesday around 12.30 p.m.
It was further reported that those LTTE men had conducted a lecture
for students and teachers demanding them to join the LTTE.
According to the Police, LTTE men have been in the practice of
visiting government and private academic institutions on their own
holding motivation lectures to lure them into mustering support for the
LTTE. |
