Markets should be open with certain limits - Mahendra

WE believe in open markets but markets should be open with certain limits said former Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka ICCSL Mahendra Amarasuriya at the Annual General Meeting of ICCSL, held last Tuesday.

There are many open markets, which are successful in the world. Successful open markets like Japan and USA have restrictions on agricultural products. Sri Lanka has to invest in on the agricultural sector, he said.

The new Chairman of ICCSL Tissa Jayaweera said that political influences in any kind of business will badly affect economic growth.

Today Sri Lankan businesses connect with politics and this will badly affect the country's economic growth. Even after several elections developed economies like Japan and USA continue to grow further, he said.

There is a huge gap between local and international business and this should be reduced. Through ICCSL we hope to facilitate the Sri Lankan business community with the latest trends in international business.

We expect to work closer with other international chambers to make ICCSL as best known chamber in the world Jayaweera said.

Today, the construction industry has become the indicator of the development of any country and in USA construction industry has grown rapidly. Infrastructure development and ICT development are also essential for economic development, he added.
