Kollupitiya police station bomb blast:

Woman accomplice remanded
 

THE Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Sarath C. Karunarante remanded, Sathyaseelan Selvakumar (29) of Jaffna, the woman accomplice of the LTTE woman suicide bomber who committed suicide at the Kollupitiya Police station premises, till July 27, 2005.

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) investigating the bomb blast told court that they had sought advice from the Attorney General in respect of the suspect now in remand custody.

Investigations revealed that the LTTE had selected the suspect woman now in custody to accompany the woman suicide bomber as she had access to the Minister Devananda's office.

The CID took over the investigations into the LTTE suicide bomb attack at the Kollupitiya Police station, on July 7, 2004 where four police personnel and the LTTE woman suicide bomber were killed.

The four police personnel killed were Inspector M.H.D. Ekanayake, Sergeant Artygala and two Reserve Police Constables Liyanage and Chandra Jayantha.

Investigations also revealed that the LTTE woman suicide bomber had been assigned to assassinate Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) Leader Douglas Devananda.

The woman accomplice was arrested by a team of officers attached to the Special Task Force (STF)immedialtey after the incident.

Investigators also had discovered the national identity cards found with the woman suicide bomber and her accomplice were forged documents.
