A Navy foot patrol retaliated an attack by the LTTE at Kumburupiddy, North of Trincomalee around 6.30 p.m. on Thursday which resulted in the death of one LTTE cadre.

Two LTTE cadres were injured, the Navy recovered a T-56 gun, ammunition and a walkie-talkie.

The Navy foot patrol was on the road leading to the Voice of Germany (Deutsche Welle) relay station at Perkar when they were suddenly attacked. The sailors taking cover retaliated.

With the fall of the three cadres, the others retreated.

At about 5.30 p.m. on Thursday, two hand grenades were thrown at a passing army truck by the LTTE at Anuradhapura junction within the urban limits of Trincomalee.

One grenade had exploded injuring two passersby as the truck has already passed the spot before the grenade exploded. The other grenade which did not explode was later recovered by the Army and defused.
