Kurunegala R&FC walk out

Kurunegala Rugby and Football Club staged a walk-out in the 10th minute of the second half of their Caltex 'C' division rugby football tournament match against the Old Antonians Sports Club, which was played at Katugastota. At the time of the walk-out the Old Antonians were leading 10-5.

This was a hotly contested game and the visiting team appeared to be not too happy over some of the decisions by referee Mahesh Gunaratne and having shown their dissent earlier walked off from the game early in the second half. This walk out is the first blot in the current tournament which is organised by the Central Province Rugby Football Union.

The Secretary of the Central Province Rugby Football Union Viper Gunaratne Snr., said that is very unfortunate that the Kurunegala team had walked out during the match. Though this tournament for clubs in the Central Province, we invited the Kurunegala Rugby Football Club to participate in this tournament as there is only one club playing rugby in the Wayamba Province (North Western Province).

Viper Gunaratne said that he was called for a report on this match from the referee Mahesh Gunaratne who is an experienced official club and school matches.
