Man detained with hand grenades

Police and Sri Lanka Army in Batticaloa had arrested a man with two hand grenades in his possession from Sittandi area of Shanthivelli of Batticaloa, Saturday (July 2).

Military spokesman Brigadier R. M. Daya Ratnayake said yesterday that the suspect was a LTTE cadre named Tavarasah (26).

The troops had taken the suspect into custody at an Army-Police security road block located in Sittandi general area. The arrest was made around 1.30 pm.

Asked about the general security situation in the North-East Brigadier Ratnayake said that the situation was normal.
