More facilities for Wayamba passenger transport services

Wayamba Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe has promised to issue free bus passes to North Western Province journalists to travel in private buses.

This scheme was initiated by the Wayamba Provincial Passenger Transport Authority.

The Chief Minister also said that all journalists in the area will be provided with this facility. He also pointed out that many find it hard when journalists come out in revealing the truth through their writing. There are some journalists who have lost their lives by being true journalists.

He also said that in spite of threats, challenges and risks faced by journalists, they have the encouragement and are more enthusiastic amidst threats and allegations. He added that the Wayamba Provincial Passenger Transport Authorities and bus owners should work even better.

A new bus stand will be opened and fifty bus routes will be set in. Route permits will not be issued in future on political recommendations and an open tender method will be followed, he added.
