Talks on to release hijacked ship's crew

The WFP office in Nairobi had informed the Sri Lankan High Commission that negotiations are going on in Mogadishu to get the release of the crew and the ship hijacked off the coast of Somalia. The ship's captain is allegedly a Sri Lankan.

The Foreign Ministry in a release said on the ministry's instructions the Sri Lanka High Commission in Kenya has contacted the World Food Programme (WFP) Office in Nairobi and the Kenyan envoy to Somalia.

The Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia had informed the High Commission that the ship's captain is a Sri Lankan although no further details were available. According to him all crew members are safe. The rest of the crew reportedly included nationals of Kenya and Tanzania.

The Sri Lanka High Commission in Kenya is in constant contact with the WFP office in Nairobi and the Kenyan Ambassador to Somalia in this regard.
