Vajira Pelpita to be cremated today
Former Consultant Editor of Silumina and a former Provincial Minister
of the Western Province Council Vajira Pelpita, 65, will be cremated
today at 4.00 p.m. at the General Cemetery Borella. He died while under
medical treatment at a private hospital.
An ardent and active supporter of the CPSL and LSSP, he contested
from Kalutara district to the Western Province Provincial Council and
was elected a WPC Member in 1993.
He was Small Industries, Textile Industries, Social Services and
Probation and Childcare, Fisheries, Tourism and Cultural Affairs
Minister of the WPC while Susil Premajayantha was the Council's Chief
Minister.
He was a much sought after speaker of the Leftist Movement and was a
well-known poet and columnist.
He penned several commentaries on politics of the day to Attha,
Dinakara and Sathiya newspapers of the left movement and later to the
Dinamina and Silumina, the Lake House group of newspapers.
His body will be brought to the Art Gallery (Kalabawana), today at
noon.
He leaves his wife, daughter Tharanga and son Chathura.
His remains will be removed at 3.30 pm from his residence at No
330-C-2 at Serpentine Flats, Borella to the General Cemetery, Borella. |
