Countdown

Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs, Jeewan Kumaratunga will be the chief guest at the official launching of the 300-day countdown to the 10th South Asian Games to be held at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo today.

Olympic Council representatives of the eight participating countries will also grace the colourful cultural show scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. There will be a total of 19 disciplines at the 10th South Asian Games to be worked off in Sri Lanka in April next year.

Member countries of the South Asian Sports Federation will meet at the Colombo Hilton at 9.30 am today to take vital decisions on the upcoming Games, including proposals to add hockey and cricket as disciplines. (D.W.)
