Houses for tsunami affected
 

Clement F. Kusiak the International President of the International Lions Club in USA said the International Lions Club decided to construct houses for tsunami victim families in the district battered by the tsunami in December last year in Sri Lanka.

Therefore he visited Sri Lanka to lay the foundation stones for the Housing Projects. Launched by the 306 A District Lions Clubs and other District Lions Clubs with the funds provided by the International Lions Club.

He was addressing a gathering at Walgama, Bandaragama after laying the foundation stone to construct seventy twin houses for tsunami victim families now living at the Tsunami Welfare Camp at Sri Nagananda Viharaya, Korelagodella, Panadura since December last.

The International President said. Alubomulla Lions Club sponsored this Housing Project. The International Lions Club in USA was shocked when the officials heard the news that the Sri Lanka coastal belt area was battered by the tsunami.

Lion Paddy Vithana, District Governor the International Association of Lions Clubs-District 306 A, Sri Lanka said the unfortunate happenings of the country in December last year have had a major impact on the lives of our country men as well as our Lions living in the coastal belt. All Lions have to rally round them and help them.

He paid a great tribute to International Lions President Clement F. Kusiak for visiting Sri Lanka to lay the foundations stones to several housing projects being under construction to be distribute freely among the tsunami victim families in the affected districts.

Project Coordinator Lion Tissa Rodrigo said the Alubomulla Lions Club and the Havelock Town Lions Club took every action with the help of Bandaragama Divisional Secretary Chandana Rodrigo and other officials to construct 70 houses at a State land at Walgama, Bandaragama. The entire project would include 70 twin houses. This would cost around Rs. 30 million funded by the International Lions Club.
