Mangala Samaraweera lambasts false impeachment report
Ports and Aviation Services Minister Mangala Samaraweera in a media
release yesterday castigated a news report in the Veerakesari newspaper
of June 13 alleging that a conspiracy was in the offing under his
leadership to bring in a motion of impeachment against President
Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.
He denied the report as a palpable falsehood uttered by an NGO
dependent "Pra" Organisation leader who sold the head of each young man
for a mere Rs. 25,000 during the reign of terror in the recent past.
The release said history is full of such power hungry leaders who
betrayed their own conscience as well as the leadership for the sake of
gaining political mileage and that this baseless false cry of a foul
mouth will not be believed by anybody.
"We cannot for a moment consider the tolerance of another's view as a
defeat. We are endeavouring hard to solve this crisis without harming
the identity or the dignity of any of the constituent parties of the
United People's Freedom Alliance.
The internal dialogue within the Alliance, if anybody perceives as a
conspiracy against the President, that shows the political immaturity of
such people.
In a democratic system we can only sympathise with such people,"
Samaraweera said in the release. |
