ADB funds housing project for war displaced
(Lankapuvath) - The North East Community Restoration and Development
(NECORD) project which is funded by the Asian Development Bank, was
inaugurated Friday in Kanniya a traditional Tamil village, eight km away
from the Trincomalee town, R. Umakanthan, NECORD Deputy Director for
Trincomalee district told Lankapuvath.
Under this project 30 houses will be constructed for families
displaced by war. The name board was unveiled and Deputy Project
Director Puhendran laid the foundation stone for the project last Friday
morning.
Eighty families out of 177 displaced due to war have been resettled
with the signing of Ceasefire Agreement between GOSL and LTTE. Tamil
Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) Trincomalee District Project Officer
Mr. V. Kalaivarnan presided over the event.
He said, "NECORD is providing Rs. 250,000 to build each house. TRO is
the implementing agency to construct these houses with additional
contribution of beneficiaries.
Houses for the remaining sixty families will be constructed in
Peeliyady and Mangayootu areas, he added. |
