Siviraja Deaf and Blind School emerge Caltex Netball champions
Siviraja Deaf and Blind School Mahawewa 'A' emerged champions when
they beat defending champions, The School for Deaf, Ratmalana 'A' in the
final of the Deaf Schools Netball Tournament played at the National
Youth Services Council, Indoor Stadium, Maharagama recently.
It was a keen tussle between two deaf school teams at the final.
After the first round Mahawewa team took a 8-7 lead and finally they
scored 16-13 to clinch the Caltex champion trophy.
Winning team skipper Ishaka Fernando was adjudged best player in this
tournament while Eranga Sandamali from The School for the Deaf,
Ratmalana 'A' won the best shooter award.
Earlier in the semi-finals, The School for the Deaf, Ratmalana 'A'
beat their team 'B' by 23-6 while Siviraja Deaf and Blind School,
Mahawewa defeated St. Joseph's School for the Deaf, Ragama by 13-5.
Caltex Lubricants Lanka Limited sponsored this tournament for the
fourth successive year and Deaf School Past Pupils' Association, The
School for the Deaf, Ratmalana organised this tournament, in
collaboration with Sri Lanka Netball Federation.
Mrs. Yasmin Dharmaratne, Secretary of the Sri Lanka Netball
Federation was the chief guest while Mrs. Otara Chandiram, Managing
Director of Odel (Pvt) Ltd was the guest of honour.
They gave away the trophies and certificates. |
