Weerawansa sues Padmakumara
The JVP Propaganda Secretary and Leader of the JVP Parliamentary
Group Wimal Weerawansa has sent a letter of demand through his lawyers
Gunasekera Associates, Attorneys-at-law demanding damages in a sum of Rs.
100 million from Bandula Padmakumara, the producer of the "Mul Pituwa"
Programme of the Swarnavahini Channel and from the Managing Director of
EAP Media Network which owns the Swarnavahini Channel, as disclosed by a
JVP media release yesterday.
Wimal Weerawansa alleges that Bandula Padmakumara slandered Wimal
Weerawansa in the course of conducting the "Mul Pituwa" programme that
went on the air on April 29 at 7.00 a.m. when he made a derogatory
inference linking Wimal Weerawansa to the abduction of journalist
Sivaram, the Editor of the TamilNet web site.
Gunasekera Associates in the letter of demand alleges that due to the
aforesaid defamatory statement their client Wimal Weerawansa who is a
man of great repute suffered social, moral and political damage and
discredit which they assess at Rs. 100 million.
The letter of demand emphasised that the Gunasekera Associates are
further instructed by their client to file action for damages together
with costs, if the Swarnavahini Channel and Bandula Padmakumara fail to
meet this demand of their client. |
