Dialog GSM launches 500th base station at Pallekelle
Dialog GSM will today commission its 500th base station in Pallekelle,
a milestone in its efforts to be the best network coverage mobile phone
operator.
Dialog GSM has already covered all nine provinces in the country with
1.5 million customers within first decade of operations.
The Dialog GSM Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya said
that this is a "major milestone in the company's evolution."
"Dialog GSM and its Parent Telekom Malaysia have been committed to
the single minded objective of providing cutting edge mobile
telecommunication services across the country affordable to all Lankans.
This commitment has stood the test of time and fluctuations in the
political and economic landscape. This commitment has delivered results
for our customers as well as to our company", he added.
"The 500 milestone is a beginning and not an end", said Dialog
General Manager Planning and Development Rosman Mat Ali.
"Fuelled by an investment in Network Development of over 90 million
US Dollars, we are committed to grow our network to reach all parts of
the country shortly, he added.
Dialog GSM operates state of the art GSM infrastructure supporting
GPRS and EDGE technologies, and has recently embarked on a trial
implementation of UMTS (3rd generation) technology. In addition to
mobile telephony services, the company has operated its own
International Gateway - Dialog Global - now an established player in the
International Services market.
Dialog GSM's subscriber base exceeds 1.5 million. Dialog GSM's
national coverage spans all nine provinces, while international roaming
is provided in 190+ countries. |
