CSE Kandy branch anniversary

The second anniversary of the Kandy Branch office of the Colombo Stock Exchange falls on June 04, 2005. The branch was opened as part of the CSE's strategy to broad base the Stock Market and this branch has shown noteworthy progress since its inception in June, 2003.

The CSE Kandy branch has made efforts during the past two years to broad base the market and this has met with success during the period.

The Public Gallery of the Kandy Branch has been popular among the investing public as evident from the number of daily visitors to the Public Gallery.

Seven member firms offer stock broker services at the CSE Kandy branch. The average monthly contribution to the CSE total market turnover from the branch increased from 3% in year 2003 to 8% in 2004.

In line with this, Daily Average Turnover of the branch has also increased significantly from Rs. 13.5 Mn. in year 2003 to Rs. 19.1 Mn. in the year 2004. So far for the year 2005 the Kandy Branch has averaged Rs 30.5 Mn turnover for a day.

The branch has organised awareness programs to educate the students and other higher educational institutions and also the investor community in the Central Province and as well as in other outstation areas, with the aim of introducing the stock market to the public.
