Sri Lanka's first Satellite digital Video Broadcast (DVB-S) Direct to Home (DTH) network was launched by the Communiq Broadband Network (Private) Ltd. (CBNSat) last Friday.

This service is now accessible to all Sri Lankans throughout the island and has capability and infrastructure to broadcast up to 120 channels which include a wide area of news, education, sports action and movies.

CEO of CBNSat, Muhunthan Canagey said that this satellite television network would provide Sri Lankans throughout the island with a unique television experience irrespective of geographical parameters, at a very affordable rate of Rs 500 per month.

The company has tied up with 24 channel partners including CNN, BBC, Pogo, Cartoon Network, MTV, VH1, Nickolodian, Raj, Raj Digital, Animal Planet, The History Channel, National Geographic channel , etc to provide a premium quality service to Sri Lankans.

The high level of audio-visual quality, and the islandwide coverage are the advantages that the viewers of CBNSat could experience. The company has ensured the availability of the complete set of equipment required to connect to the satellite television network partnering with Singer Sri Lanka.

The Distance Learning Facility is another advantage provided through CBNSat which would enable Sri Lankan students to access and view course support programmes on TV just as they would watch a normal television programme upon signing up with the relevant distant learning centre.

The company has been able to provide employment to a large number of youth at its office in Kotahena.
