Construction of temporary houses for tsunami affected in Galle

The construction of temporary houses for the tsunami affected people
in the Galle District has been completed to a great extent, a spokesman
of the HDA told the "Daily News".
These houses were constructed by government and non-governmental
organisations under the Galle district housing scheme, and houses were
constructed on the same lot allocated to each family.
Out of the total 5,403 houses in the Galle district 2,737 houses have
been constructed and completed by April 30 and 1,818 houses are under
construction. Except for about sixty, all the completed houses have been
occupied.
The distribution of completed houses among Divisional Secretary's
division is 1,436 houses in Hikkaduwa DS division, 552 in Balapitiya,
408 in Habaraduwa 208 in Galle and 135 in Ambalangoda, he said.
He also indicated that all the houses could be constructed and
completed by the end of this month. |
