BEML may get Rs. 10 billion order from Sri Lanka

Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) said it is likely to bag a Rs. 1,000 crore (Rs. 10 billion) order to build a railway line and supply 200 rail coaches to rebuild the railway network of tsunami-hit Sri Lanka.

"We have bid to build railway lines and supply 200 coaches, including signals, at a value between Rs. 800-1,000 crore," BEML Chairman / Managing Director, V. R. S. Natarajan said.

He said many railway lines and coaches were washed away following the December 26 tsunami. He said BEML's order book would swell to about Rs. 4,000 crore by September, which includes international orders. BEML's order book position as on March 31, 2005 stood at Rs. 2,015 crore.
