President orders inquiry : Was Professor involved in PSC order
against interdiction?
President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has instructed the
relevant divisions to inquire and report immediately whether the PSC
order against the interdiction of the Principals of Ananda College,
Colombo and Kingswood College, Kandy was a sequel to any influence by
Professor Mendis Rohanadheera, the Chairman of the Education
Sub-committee of the Public Service Commission.
In reply to a media query by our correspondent, the Presidential
Special Investigation Unit said that action can be filed in the Supreme
Court against a member of the Public Services Commission who has acted
in contravention of the Law.
According to the Presidential Investigation Unit, a grand son of
Professor Mendis Rohanadheera has gained admission to Grade I of Ananda
College, this year.
Since a grand son was admitted to grade I of Ananda College this
year, Professor Rohanadheera is an interested party in the present
instance and therefore the morals of his making a decision in this
matter is a controversial point, according to the Presidential
Investigation Unit.
The PSC decision became a bone of contention because of the double
standards it adopted in the case of the Principals of Maliyadeva Balika
Vidyalaya, Kurunegala and Kingswood College, Kandy, the Unit added.
The Presidential Investigation Unit is hopes to send its report very
soon, said its Director. |
