JVP promises full term of UPFA Govt. - Somawansa
by Gamini Bandaranaike
Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Leader Somawansa Amarasinghe said that the
JVP would do everything possible to strengthen the hands of President
Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga." The SLFP has never had a good
friend like the JVP and we ensure that this government will run its full
term of six years", he added.
Addressing public meeting held yesterday at the Colombo Municipal
Grounds to say "No to Joint Mechanism- Let Us provide relief to those
Suffered from Tsunami" as the theme, Amarasinghe said although the UNP
was hoping to see the fall of this government, it would never happen and
the UPFA will run the country for six years", he said.
He reminded the people that the JVP was able to get the Ceylon
Electricity Board issue settled through discussion. Ranil thought that
the UPFA government was over. But it did not happen that way. The UNP did
not have the backbone to say what they thought of the "Joint Mechanism.
"We should protect the sovereignty, territorial integrity,
independence, national security, prestige and democracy of this country.
For this we are ready to support the President collecting strength of
our both hands. If that is not going to happen we would form a new front
involving masses. Except the SLFPers and UNPers others can join this
force".
He said that the JVP was of the view that there was no need for
a"joint mechanism' to distribute relief measures. The people acted fast
no sooner the people were hit by the tsunami. There was no machinery in
operation at that time. If the people could do so without the help of a
machinery why do we want such a machinery to help, he asked. |
