Five new Ministry Secretaries

President Chandrika Kumaratunga yesterday appointed five new Ministerial Secretaries.

They are: Thilak Hapangama (Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education), W.K.K. Kumarasiri (Ministry of Samurdhi and Poverty Alleviation), M. Vamadevan (Ministry of Estate Housing, Infrastructure and Community Development), A.G. Athurugiriya (Ministry of Ports and Aviation), M.A.R.D. Jayatilleke (Ministry of Rehabilitation and District Development - Batticaloa).

SJC to felicitate past teachers

The Old Boys' Union of St. Joseph's College, Colombo 10 has organised a Past Teachers get-together this year too on May 15. It will begin with a Holy Mass at 8.30 a.m. followed by breakfast, entertainment and lunch.

The get-together will be held at the Bonjean Hall of St. Joseph's College at 10 a.m. and lunch will follow at 12.30 p.m.

School boy dies in accident

A nine-year-old school boy was killed when the push cycle he was riding was knocked by a CTB bus. This was revealed at the inquest of Gurusingha Arachchige Lahiru Madushan of Ihala Bomiriya, Kaduwela. The victim succumbed to his injuries on Thursday (5) at the Colombo National Hospital.
