Lankan Parliamentary delegation meets Singaporean Speaker
Lankan parliamentary delegation consisting members of the Committee
on Public Enterprises led by Minister of Advanced Technology and
National Enterprise Development Rohitha Bogollagama on a study tour in
Singapore called on Speaker of Singapore Parliament Abdullah Tarmugi on
Thursday.
Talking to the delegates, the Speaker said he is glad that the Lankan
delegation had fruitful sessions with public institutions and committees
of the Parliament.
He also extended the fullest co-operation in providing support to Sri
Lankan Parliamentarians to improve the quality and standard of the
services. The Speaker said Singapore is changing with the circumstances
and time to time standing orders of the Singapore Parliament were
amended to suit the changes. Bogollagama said that the study tour has
been very successful and the delegation had meeting with several key
institutions of the Singapore Government and were able to interact with
them.
The discussion centered on co-operation between the Parliaments on
how parliamentary committees operate in the two countries. They also
discussed on promotion of bilateral economic co-operation.
Deputy Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Sripathi Sooriyarachchi,
Members of the Parliament John Amaratunga, Hussen Ali, H. R. Mithrapala,
Piyasiri Wijenayake, Lakshman Nipunaarachchi, Secretary to the Ministry
of Advanced Technology and National Enterprise Development Lal Kumara
Gamage and Deepthi Bogollagama were also present. |
