Dankotuwa Porcelain launches New Bone China to local market
Dankotuwa Porcelain Limited (DPL) last weekend launched its New Bone
China products to the Sri Lankan market. This follows its international
launch at the Ambiente 2005 Fair in Frankfurt, Germany in February this
year.
DPL Chairman Sunil G Wijesinha said that following the international
launch, there had been several inquiries from its Sri Lankan clientele,
notably a large section of the expatriates living in the country.
DPL Chief Operating Officer Sarath Mallawa Arachchi explained that
traditional bone china is very expensive and generally in demand at the
higher end of the market. "Bone China is often used in some of the top
hotels around the world and in the first class cabins of many airlines.
The new bone china that Dankotuwa produces is similar in
characteristic with its ivory colour and translucency, but is made by a
different process", he said. Mallawa Arachchi added that since
traditional bone china uses real animal bone ash, some customers do not
favour these products. On the contrary New Bone China does not use any
bone ash and is thus gaining popularity in some countries which are
generally averse to use products with real bone ash.
Traditionally bone china is accepted as the premier material for
tableware and is universally admired. It is usually seen on the most
aristocratic tables and at the most prestigious state functions. Those
who know the prestige value of bone china always aspire to own at least
one set.
"This is a good opportunity for Sri Lankans to own a product which is
very close to traditional bone china. A major difference between
porcelain and new bone china is that in porcelain ware the body is pure
white, while new bone china is ivory", Wijesinha added and expressed
confidence at its success in the local market. |
